Enhancing inner and outer beauty, naturally.
Sitting in traffic day in and day out is exhausting in itself. Add in the hustle and bustle of everyday life and sometimes finding time for yourself feels impossible. As a working mom, I struggle to find that relaxing quiet time to recharge. Luckily, nestled in the Phenix Salon Suites in Prosper is Sonder Esthetics and Nails, providing a calm and luxurious experience for their clientele.
When you first walk into the suite, you are greeted with a relaxing environment. Kim Nguyen, the owner, has created a beautiful space that sets the tone for the pampering about to happen. A weight comes off your shoulders when you sit in the velvet green chairs. From facials to nail care, nothing about the experience feels rushed and you can melt into treatments knowing they were curated just for you.
Kim takes the time to get to know each client to ensure the care she provides meets their specific needs. She uses a holistic approach to skin care, “360 wellness” as she calls it, focusing on the inside and out. This means Kim doesn’t offer things like laser treatments, hydro, or chemically heavy deep treatments. Instead, she does a deep dive into each client’s health and lifestyle and crafts a plan made uniquely for them. Things like the frequency and type of exercise and the types of foods a person eats come into consideration when helping a client achieve their skin goals. Depending on the client’s skin care needs, and their desired speed for meeting their goals, Kim has a number of treatment plans and products for everyone’s journey for healthy skin.
The move to a holistic method came from her years in hair and nail, where Kim learned the chemicals in the products she used on a daily basis were the source of her migraines. From there, she went “down the rabbit hole”, reading studies and searching for health and beauty products without the toxins which affected her, such as formaldehyde, which is in a number of nail polishes and hardeners. When she opened the doors for Sonder, she settled on two product lines.
One is Glymed, her results driven pharmacy line that is pregnancy and oncology safe. It’s priced similarly to brands found at big stores like Sephora or Ulta, so making the switch to these products isn’t too taxing on the wallet. The other is Osmosis, a holistic, clean product line founded by Dr. Ben Johnson. This can be a slower process, but gentler on the skin. Osmosis also offers supplements for a more “complete package” for healthy skin.
With so many products out there, it’s difficult to know what’s best for your skin. Thankfully, Kim is here to help! You can even schedule a free consultation with her to get the ball rolling on your journey to healthier skin. It’s a team experience, as Kim becomes almost a life coach on your skincare adventure. She will check in at the start of your treatment and offer suggestions on your struggle points- be it dietary replacements or switching products for something more suited to your skin.
If you’re more interested in nail care, I highly recommend sitting with Kim for a manicure. There are no acrylics or dips here- only gel and a gel-alternative. Dazzle Dry is a gel-alternative brand that goes on like polish, dries in 5 minutes, and lasts about two weeks. And it really lasts! I’m almost four weeks out and am only now seeing chips and cracks. After having several gel manicures where the process burned, weakened my nails, and they were chipped in a week, I’m hooked on Dazzle Dry. Kim’s manicure was the gentlest and most relaxing spa treatment I’ve ever had. Bonus- there was no HGTV or Food Network blaring in the background, either.
First time clients are gifted with a wonderful sample pack which includes a cuticle oil pen (I love this thing! It makes applying the oil so easy and portable!), a nail buffer, and a sample of Glymed’s sunscreen or beta gel. Sonder Esthetics and Nails is open Friday through Tuesday and closed Wednesdays and Thursdays.
From Kim:
Advise for anyone else starting out? “Create a community and have a great support system to help overcome the obstacles that come with starting your own business.”
Favorite product? “My absolute favorite is the Radiant Serum by Glymed. It’s a gentle exfoliant for multiple skin concerns that anyone can use. I’m always sold out, because it’s my clients favorite, too!”
Other Local Favorites? TEACo on University Dr in Little Elm is Kim’s go-to for all her Boba needs. For sushi, she goes to Hana Sushi in the Gates of Prosper and recommends the yellowtail.
